Say what?

I have to admit that sometimes I read the newspaper and wonder if some of the stories are just plain made up as they really seem just far too stupid to be true.

Unfortunatly they are true, as in the case of this story I saw this week.

A new animal rights article ( probably from the university of we've got nothing better to be doing) has said that we should no longer calls our Dogs, cats, gerbils, fish etc "pets" ( I swear I'm not making this up) as it is insulting to them. We should call them companion animals.

But the insanity, erhh... I mean the article doesn't stop there.

No apparently we should also no longer consider ourselves to be said animals "owners" we are now "Human Carers".

And it still doesn't stop.

Apparently we should no longer use terms such as "sick as a parrot" and "drunk as a skunk" as this is a form of abuse.

Also we are invited to no longer call wild animals, wild animals as "wilderness" is too close to uncivilised" we should call them "free living, Free ranging or free roaming animals" instead.

Now if you'll excuse me I'm going to go off somewhere shaking my head and go worry for the future of civilisation.

Much ado about the do

Well it's been a pretty quiet day. With nothing to do and nothing to watch on the telly.

If only there had been some big national event, something which the tv channels could have pretty much devoted all day too.....

oh wait!

Yes for those of you who live under a rock, or somewhere without the internet or tv the Royal wedding was today which meant among other things a extra bank holiday for us here in the uk and another glorious four day weekend.

And yes despite Grumpy and myself not actively planning to watch anything to do with the wedding, well we spent most of the day doing just that!

Owen just spent most of the day looked bored and like he was wondering why we were spending so much time watching the tv.

Their baacckkkk

Long term readers ( if you're still out there mind you will remember back in January when we recieved a call from someone claiming to be from the microsoft maintence department claiming well we had a virus.

Well obivously not getting the hint last time they tried once again today. Now if I had been here I would have gladly spent twenty minutes winding them up and getting them to talk complete gibberish.

However as they called during the day I wasn't, so they ended up with Grumpy who wasn't having any of it and promptly hung up on them.

The annoying thing is that they are able to trick some people who don't know much about computers which is why they keep doing this.

Still maybe they will call back and I'll get them next time, mwah, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha,

Anyway, work is now over until next Tuesday and this weekend the time is all mine. No having to go into work on Saturday :-)

Well that was different

The weather took a somewhat bizare turn tonight when it went from bright sunshine and being boiling hot most of the day to hailing.

And not just anything sort of hail oh no.

This was one of the most prolonged hail storm I've ever seen and the hail was massive, we're talking hail which was at least marble sized if not bigger.

Owen found the whole thing fascinating. Grumpy on the other hand just seemed please that he had come back from taking Owen out for a walk when he did as he must have only beaten the hail back with about three minutes to spare.

There was also a fairly amusing conversation today about the death of the creator of Only fools and horses. One of Grumpys favourite programs

Me: Did you hear that the creator of only fools and horses died?
Grumpy: No, but I guess he must have been getting on a bit.
Me: he was born four years after you.
Grumpy: Errhhh, so sad when the young die isn't it?

Work this morning wasn't as bad as I was expecting. And at least I don't have to go back until Tuesday.

If you don't stand for something you'll fall for anything

Well it's been yet another wonderful day weather wise. Apparently we're hotter then some parts of spain right now. Which probably massively sucks for anyone who spent a fortunate on going on a easter break.

But c'est la vie,

and I mustn't forget to add, ha, ha :-)

It was a bit of a weird day at work as for most people this is their last day of work until next Tuesday. But not for me as I have to go in Saturday morning. It could be worse, it could be for the whole day.

Mind you at least they gave us a dress down day as well as giving everybody a free easter egg as well.

Which is nice :-)

I'm just hoping the weather stays nice for the weekend seeing how I can actually go out side and enjoy it.

I want that one

Well I decided at work today that I am more then in need of having a break. Fortunatly I have Easter weekend coming up. Unfortunatly I have to work on Saturday but fortunatly I do get Friday and Monday off.

As I'm sure you'll agree that's a lot of fortune. Or misfortune depending on your point of view.

Still could be worse. I could be working the whole of the bank holiday weekend and that would really give me something to whine about.

Not that I usually much excuse to whine.

Random fact of the day, according to a horoscope on facebook ( so this must be true) today my Mood is Irritated, my lucky Color is Gold, my lucky number is 64 and my lucky time of day is apparently 10pm.

and as I'm sure you'll agree you can't get more random then knowing that my lucky colour is apparently gold.

I suppose it was only a matter of time

I was somewhat surprised when I was in WH smiths over the weekend to notice a new rack of gift cards. Not for use in the store mind you, or for magazine subscriptions or even for Itunes. No these gift cards were for credit to use in your favourite facebook games.

So yes now you can help somebody celebrate their birthday by giving them credit to use on their non existent farm.

Anyway it's been a fantastic day weather wise and even better I was out of work early enough to enjoy it as it's my first Saturday shift on well saturday ( I know easter Saturday it sucks but c'est la vie) I get to finish early each day in lieu of the time I do on Saturday. Plus as it's Easter Friday this Friday which I wouldn't be working I'm getting to finish even earlier the normal.

And for those of you not keeping up with the English Bank Holidays, thanks to the upcoming Royal wedding we have a extra one this year. So we get this Friday and Monday off. We then go back to work for three days before we get the following Friday and Monday off.

Awesome :-)!

Thats my story and I'm sticking to it

Well it's hard not feel the weight of my advancing years right now what with approaching that special point in life where as I'm not leaving with a spouse, I'll be pushed out of the YSA and become a single adult. Or to put it another way I'll go from hanging out with people who are 18 to 30 to hanging out with people who could be30 to well dead as someone put it.

Still I'm pleased to see that I can still show the youngsters a thing or too. I'll admit that the days of being able to exist on only four or five hours sleep are distressingly far in the past, but still I seem to have a lot more stamina then a lot of other YSA as a lot of them keep crying off activities claiming they are too tired or had a long day at work.

Or where it's a case that I have more stamina or am simply too strubborn to miss out on a activity I want to go to is a question I will leave for another day.

Anyway, we went to the new laserquest place in Leicester this evening which I have to say was a lot of fun. Even if we managed to completely confuse the staff with our energy levels that were not down to drink or anything else! The first two games went rather well but as I kept scoring among the highest in the final game where it was a free for all I might have well as painted a target on my back! Still at least I managed to come second even if my accuracy was quite bad.

In fact the most accurate shooter of the night was one of the girls who scored the highest in each other.

Still at least we'll have a fun way to report the activity
" We spent the evening promoting YSA togetherness by shooting each other!"

That's not right

It's been a quite good day today. In fact worringly good because after all lets face it, it's a Monday and as most people in full time employment will tell you Mondays are not supposed to be good.

Here's hoping that this isn't the universes ways of setting me up for a really rotten rest of the week.

Still I'm trying to remain optomistic ( no really, I am. Honestly!)

The weather also somewhat surprisingly managed to stay fairly nice dispite all of the doom and gloom weather reports.

Which again might be a indication of bad weather to come but if it does c'est la vie I guess.

I would just be happy with a nice week regardless of rain or shine.

Not near the top of my must go places

I was reading today ( and I double checked to make sure it wasn't a belated april fools) tourist companies are now proudly organising official tourist trips into areas around cherobyl that were previously closed off to radiation. Yes, that chernobyl. Now I could be wrong but if I were on holiday going to look around area near the worst nuclear disaster in history not really near the top of my must do excusions. Anyway, the weather has been absolutely fantastic all day and there's nothing to brighten your day then the sky being well bright. The only small problem was that the nice weather bought a looottttttt of people out to do shoping. I was waiting nearly 15 minutes in the queue at morrisons! Still we had sunshine so musn't grumble too much. Later folks.

Just what you don't want to see

Well, what better way to spend a Friday at work then to be able to see the bright sunshine and bright blue skies outside as the weather finally takes a turn for the better whilst your stuck in side all day...............

wait a second that's not a good way at all.

Yes as you may have guessed the weather took a fantastic turn for the better today and muggins here was stuck inside all day working! The weathers supposed to be good this weekend but seeing as I'm actually now out of the office I'll believe that when I see it.

I saw a new trailer today which has been put together to advertise Law and Order UK ( yes we even have it over here now :-) which is going to start on BBC america very soon. If I remember correctly it was subtitled what we have learned from British justice and is very, very funny.

Well to someone whose english at least.

I managed to pick up a magnifying glass do hickey thing-a-majig from aldi's the other week to try and help some of my painting ( It was on offer so it was very cheap. They do have some weird offers in Aldi's sometimes but I digress)the downside is it's so powerful it shows up every little tiny imperfection. So you look at something without it and it looks fine, put it under it and it looks terrible. Move out it looks fine, under terrible, etc, etc ad infintium.

You get the idea.

I'm also on the look out for a new series of book to read this as I'm currently all out of good reading material. Any suggestions would be appreciated except one.

I'm not going to read the twilight saga!

Let their be light

I know, I know, it's been another several days seemed I updated this thing. It used to be so easy to post every day, now not so much.

Although I did have a good excuse for the first part of this week as the eletrics in the house went just a little bit gaga. Basically one of the circuit breakers flipped and refused to come back on. Which meant no lights, no cooker, no power to the freezer and oh yes no computer either.

Fortunatly the electrician managed to get things fixed..... sort of but only after he declared our house to be very weirdly wired up and said that tracking down the problem had been very interesting.

Which is not the kind of thing you want to hear from a specialist in their field. It reminded me of a quote by Elder Engineseer. He said if he ever goes into a hospital he wants to hear people saying that he has a very boring run of the mill problem. If he hears the term interesting he'd start to panic!

Work has been good if extremely busy, plus it's only one more day to the weekend which is good.

Sucker Punched

I'll make no bones about it. It's been a very long week and I've been struggling to find inspiration for... well pretty much anything as you may have guessed from the lack of posts.

Settling into the new team has continued to be strange and the sheer amount of work to get under control was daunting. At one point it was a bit like getting a forest fire under control using your feet. As soon as you stamped out one bit of flame another flared up.

However to my surprise I found myself getting things under control far quicker then I thought I could which probably just goes to underscore the point that I do need to have more faith in my own skills and abilities.

I went out with some of the YSA to see the film Sucker Punch tonight. I had really liked the trailers and really wanted to like the film itself.

I really did.

However it turned out to be very disappointing. I found myself checking the time only halfway into the film which is never a good sign.
