When one door closes another one opens. You just have to hope it's not a trapdoor

Well after having the house to myself over the weekend I'm having to get used to both Grumpy and Owen being back. Which mainly means remembering to tidy up after myself and not leaving any food too close to the edge of the counter :-)

I'm also having to get used to life without a calling as this Sunday at Stake Conference I was released as a member of the YSA Presidency. I was expecting it at somepont ( as I become mega old as of August after all :-) But I was kinda hoping to keep going for a little bit longer.

Still I wasn't the only one, it's been a almost complete change as the only one still there is Kmcr. Everyone else was released.

Well except Bro H of course. He'll still be there as ever teaching institiute.

We're getting a "surprise" at work tomorrow to reward us for all of our good work. We also got a dress down week as well, which is nice as it gets me out of ironing shirts for a whole week :-)

Mind you this didn't stop today being rather ( a massive understatement mind you to use the term rather) busy.

Well at least it keeps me out of mischief I suppose:-)

I was going to mention the Doctor... Doctor who?

I've so far not really talked much about this season of Doctor Who.

Now I was going to start talking about it in this post however even with the broadcast following so closely in the USA so Scully wil lbe seeing it rather soon, I absolutely can not mention even the slightest hint yet of what's happened in tonight's episode as I would totally ruin it for anyone ( USA based or otherwise) who has not seen it yet.

Even the vaguest clue might spoil it.

You'll understand when you watch it.

It's been a day of other surprises as well whcih weren't as big a surprise as it should have been as I realised I was half expecting one of htem even though I didn't realise I was.

Yeah me too.

I'll go more into depth on that one tomorrow.

Says it all really

I was less then surprised to see which news story was dominated all of the front pages of todays papers when I had to get some petrol on the way into work. Now you may think it was would be the story about the capture of a wanted war criminal.

And you would be..... totally and 100% wrong.

What important news story managed to batter this story off the front pages I hear you ask?

Why the news that cheryl cole has been booted off the american version of the x-factor.

Seriously that is the main news stories in most papers this morning.

I might have spent more time dwelling on that even I was spending so much on trying to stay awake as I had a rather early start to the day as I had to run grumpy into town to catch a coach.

In fact so early I now know that it starts to get light at 4.15am. I didn't know that. I do now though. Not that I wanted to know that and or actually needed to know it but c'est la vie I guess :-)

Of course after dropping him off I thought it would be relatively simple to come home and go back to bed before having to get up for work.

But it didn't work like that, oh no. I didn't get back to sleep in the slightist. Which meant by the time I got to work I had already been awake for nearly five hours. Trying to do a regular Friday like that would have been bad enough, but the last Friday before a bank holiday it was shall we say even more interesting.

By the time I got home I ended up falling asleep on the settee straight away. Which can lead to some confusion when you are watching the start of the simpsons and wake up to see the end of the hollyoaks.

Still it could have been a lot worse. The volcanon in Iceland stopped errupting before it could have any major effects otherwise our week would have been even more fun.

It's easy to forget

For those of you who live under a rock, or just don't pay any attention to the news whatsoever you would have missed that a certain church had forcast the end of the world.

Like a lot people I found it slightly amusing especially as the whole thing seemed to paraody a simpson's episode where Homer predicted the end of the world after likewise "decoding" the date from the bible. He even made a wrong prediction just the minister in this church.

But now it's today and unless I'm just one of the most incredibily unobservant people ever the world hasn't ended. Which has made this group the butt of rather a lot of jokes.

I was reading the story about this group when a thought suddenly struck me. The one thing that most people are missing is that these people really believed that the world was going to end, that was it, game over etc. They were not expecting to still be here today. That was their faith and now... well I'm sure not even they know what their going to do now.

I'd hate to be in that postion.

Anyway in a case of somewhat ironic timing another volcano in Iceland has gone and errupted. Now apparently the ash cloud is being blown towards europe but depending on which news reports you read and or believe this kind of ash may have no effect or will close down european airspace again.

Which means one way or another my team is likely to be in for one heck of a busy week either way.

May you live in interesting times

It's been a rather interesting couple of days.

Firstly when I went back to work I was surprised that we were being given the next set of our new "responsibilities" well straight away, which meant quite literally being throwing in at the deep end. The learning curve has quite frankly being horribly high as the new things were are doing are very different.

But on the other hand it's also proven to be a interesting challenge. Which is what I'm going to keep telling myself until I get a good handle on things whilst trying not to tear my hair out.

There's been the announcement of another engagement in the YSA which will no doubt bring a fresh round of the " So what's wrong with you game?" as people look at the older YSA who are not married and try and figure out why their not happily married.

Some of the members of my team at work find the whole church with dating and marriage really interesting ( for that read they find it funny, strange and somewhat bizzare especially the whole " menance to society thing" ). I was talking to one of the girls this morning who told me not to worry as she was sure people hadn't given up on me, she then proceeded to say that I only had to worry if people weren't trying to set me up on dates with their friends as that would be a really bad sign. Cue a long moment of silence and one rather horrified young lady who realised she had just put her foot in it. I assured her I wasn't offended as it was obivous to all there had been no malice behind her comment.

Finally I've been having problems finding creative focus at the moment. For that read I've been a bit bored and can't find something constructive to do. Which is somewhat frustrating but c'est la vie I guess.

And it's back to work we go

Well as is usually the case my holiday is over all too soon and thus I will be heading back to work tomorrow.

Of course I wouldn't mind having more time off as lets face it who wouldn't, but as week of holiday is usually long enough for me as I find any longer and I start to get bored.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I'm just one of these people who needs something to do, something to keep them occupied otherwise I get very bored.

Which is why I found it very difficult whilst searching for work as I literally had nothing to do. Well that and having to visit the job centre. Seriously if there is a more soul destroying place in existance I don't want to go there.

Speaking of things to keep me occupied, I have decided to focus on a new subject to read up about . I was inspired by the movie Thor to to start reading about mythology. A little different from my usual historical tastes I'll admit but it's still proving to be a fascinating subject.

If you go down to the woods today

Well I've just got back from running round in the woods making a complete muppet of myself as usual as we had our monthly YSA activity and this time it was wide game.

Which for those of you who don't know is a team game you play outside in a wide area. See it does exactly what it says on the tin. Or in the name in this case.

Very simple. Like me :-)

Still it was a awful lot of fun and a much better use of my time this evening then watching the eurovision song contest.

Another one of those special times of year

Well it's that time of year again when the car has to go into the garage for it's MOT.

Then muggins here spends most of the day pacing back and forth nervously waiting for the phone to ring.

And today was no expection. Plus what really didn't help was the tons of marketing calls we seemed to be getting today for some strange reason. Which could have either been a massive coincidence or the universe was winding me up you decide......

Still I was rather happy when the car managed to pass it's Mot with no problems. Which considering the age of the car and it's mileiage was by no means a foregone conclusion.

It may be old now, a bit battered and if you believe some people the reason why I don't have more dates ( nope not making that last one up someone actually said that to my face) but it's been a very reliable little car.

Futurama versus Dungeons and Dragons

The newest Conspiracy Theory

I saw this and thought it was one of the funniest conspiracy theories I seen in a long time.

Doctor to President Richard Nixon "You have to tape everything that happens in this office, every word, or you won’t know if you’re under the influence"

Was he trying to help or set him up? Discuss.............

For the wargamer who must have everything

Wargamers. Well they can be a weird bunch. Exhibit A well I'm one for a start.

But even I was a little taken back to see a news items together showing the latest release from a company which you can now use in certain wargames.

And here it is?
Any ideas what it is? Nope? Well I'll give you a clue it's been in the news a lot over the past week or so.

Yes, the pennies dropped now hasn't it? ( if it hasn't you obivously need to watch more news) What you can see in the picture above you is a complete scale replica of the compound osma bin laden was hiding in when the americans finally caught up with him.

What kind of game you can use this in I have no idea and quite frankly I didn't look at the rest of the website to see what else they make!

The mind boggles.

Already know what their gonna say

Well it rained today. It actually rained!

That might sound like a weird thing to seem happy about considering how much I usually moan about the weather, but it's been a while since we've had any rain and their already starting to talk about drought, etc, etc during the summer.

Of course I'm sure that their going to say that this was actually the "wrong type" of rain and actually won't be helpful at all.

But c'est la vie I guess.

The next episode of doctor who tonight was a little strange. But in the sense of it was quite light hearted considering the very dark opening two episodes so the difference was very noticable indeed.

Hammer Time

Well it was off out to the movies tonight to see the new film "thor".

Now it did look good but lets face it after the massive disappointment of Sucker punch I really wasn't getting my hopes up.......

but I'm pleased to report it was very, very good. I even got all of the injokes in it which is probably sad testimony to just how much rubbish I know.

I was slightly annoyed that I missed the end of credit sequence. i should have know better then that, marvel films always have a end of credits sequence. So I went and missed the bit with NF in.

Hopefully that won't spoil it for anyone who doesn't know way more then they should about the world of marvel.

Anyway, it's the weekend now followed by a whole week of holiday which I feel like I reaallyyyyy need.

It was also good that I remembered to book in so far in advance. The holiday diary is now booked solid for the next three months! Slight downside for being in such a large team now but c'est la vie.

Tea Lady, Tea Lady bring us a cake

Due to the nature of our work, we have to spend a long time at our desks and sometimes people might want something a bit sweet and sugary to keep them going before their break rolls round and the vending machines are oh so far away from their desks.

So the canteen send round one of their staff with a tea trolley at regular intervals. She always goes on the same route and some people don't even have to get up from their desks to get a cup of tea ( I'm telling you all this for a reason bear with me)

Anyway she put me into a complete fit of the giggles this morning as when she walked passed she consipratorly lent over and asked me if we had all got told off this morning.

I asked her what she meant and she pointed out that a large chunk of my team had all been buying tea and chocolate this morning. So she thought that either meant we were the most unlucky in love team in the whole building and most of us were going through a bad break up or we had all got told off and needing cheering up.

Somebody at work also came to the conclusion that the bank holiday weeked just gone here in the UK should forever be remembered as the Disney bank holiday weekend as the common girl became a royal, the prince got the girl and the bad guy was well got.

The weathers being a bit hit and miss right now as it seems to be very sunny but rather cold. Still it could be worse, at least as I'm on lates this week I get a lie in.

Dark Skies

The bright sunshine and clear blue skies were slightly dampened today by the quite awful smell of burning plastic!

Basically in Loughborough a rather large plastic recycling centre had caught fire, shuting a major road and casting a huge black pail of smoke into the sky which you could see from miles away!

Plus it wasn't just the smell you had to put up with. We kept getting bits of "ash" or rather little bits of fire blackened plastic drop out of the sky.

Which I'll admit in the grand scheme of things it wasn't a massive problem but it was still somewhat annoying.

Also when I had to go into Loughborough due to road closures, I literally had to go the long way round. I.e to the other side of Loughborough and then come back in. Which made the trip three times longer then it was usually and I was only going for a new bulb for one of my indicators on the car.

But c'est la vie I guess.

Anyway, I'm back to work tomorrow and I'm going to be on lates which should be interesting.

Ninja Nuns

It seems almost inevitable that whenever you have a big public event/occurance you will get conspiracy theories.

And the first one has already surfaced about the Royal Wedding. It resolves around the nuns involved in the wedding cermony or the "ninja Nuns" as they are apparently started to be referred to as.

Now this has apparently started due to three things. Firstly one of the nuns hasn't been identified, secondly the mystery nun is a lot taller and more atheletic looking then the other and lastly that she was wearing trainers.

So that is apparently folks how you can go from a normal Nun to a ninja nun in three easy steps. By nobody knowing your name, being tall and wearing trainers.

But that does prompy another thought. If you can get Ninja Nuns, can you get viking vicars?
